Our courses last for 8 weeks with one evening class (55-minute lesson) per week. Once you have decided on a course evening and time, it will continue on a rolling basis until the next level, provided that enough participants have registered for the course. The day, time, location and teacher will remain largely the same.
The course costs CHF 180.00 per person. Concessionary prices apply to:
Students/apprentices CHF 165.00 (with student ID)*
Colour Key CHF 145.00 (with ID)*
Repetenten CHF 90.00*
Please bring the course fee in cash to the first evening of the course.
No additional discounts can be granted on the already reduced prices.
For people with no prior knowledge of salsa, the answer is clear: the beginners' courses (Basic 1) are for newcomers. For participants with prior knowledge, it is somewhat more difficult, especially since different dance schools teach different content, use different names for the figures and also name their course levels differently. Therefore, it is always best to get an impression of the courses in question on site. A non-binding trial lesson is possible at any time. The teachers on site will also be happy to help you and advise you on which level is best for you. Trial lessons and clarifications must be arranged in advance with info@bailamos-salsa.ch.
In our couple’s dance classes, there are two roles: the leader guides the partner through the steps, whilst the follower lets themselves be led and interprets the cues. Typically, men take on the leading role and women the following role – though both are possible and common. You choose your role when you register. Many dancers go on to learn the other role later on – to do so, simply register for a class in the relevant role.
Our courses are open to anyone aged 14 and over. Minors require the consent of their legal guardians: when registering, please enter the consent and the parents’ contact details in the comments field of the registration form.
Yes. A trial lesson is free of charge if you do not go on to enrol in the course afterwards. If you decide to enrol on the course, the trial lesson counts as your first lesson and is included in the course fee. You can attend one taster lesson per course level. Trial lessons must be arranged in advance – the easiest way to book one is directly via the ‘Book a free taster lesson’ button on our website or by emailing info@bailamos-salsa.ch.
Yes. In principle, it is possible to join ongoing courses at any time, provided that you have the relevant prior knowledge.
You can find all current courses on our website under ‘Courses’. Click on the ‘Registration’ link to access an online form. If you have any questions or experience technical difficulties, please call us. We will be happy to help.
Yes, you can! We make sure that there are an equal number of followers and leaders registered for each of our courses. If there is an imbalance, we try to even things out by bringing in help from higher courses. So, you don't have to bring a dance partner with you. However, if you have the opportunity to motivate someone, all the better!
Our studios are on the first floor at Leimgrubenweg 9d. Our dance school is easily accessible by both public transport and car.

The easiest way to cancel is via your course’s WhatsApp chat – whenever possible, 24 hours in advance, but no later than 12 hours before the lesson starts. If you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, we can organise a stand-in dance partner; after this deadline, we can no longer guarantee this.
Yes, this is possible! However, this only applies if you have notified us of your absence (e.g. holidays, business events, etc.) when registering and/or 48 hours before the start of the course cycle in writing to info@bailamos-salsa.ch. You are then welcome to make up the missed hours in another ongoing course at the same or any lower level. All spontaneous absences during the current course cannot be made up. Just contact us and we will advise you.
After the 8 weeks, your course will automatically move on to the next level – on the same day, at the same time, in the same place and, as a rule, with the same teachers, provided enough participants sign up. The teachers will usually ask you towards the end of the course whether you’d like to continue. So you don’t need to do anything to stay on the course.
Our regular courses also take a break on public holidays and during the school holidays, e.g. in the summer. In this case, the courses last longer by making up for the missed course evenings. This means you won't miss a single class. The holidays and public holidays are always published on our website and are also mentioned in the courses.
An intensive course covers the content of a regular 8-week course in a condensed format – either as a week-long course comprising 5 lessons over the course of a week (1 lesson of 55 minutes per day) or as an intensive weekend comprising 2 × 3 lessons of 55 minutes each. Afterwards, you can move straight on to the next level. We offer intensive courses during the summer and spring holidays, when the regular courses are on break – ideal for anyone who wants to get started quickly or make the most of the holiday period.
You don't need to bring anything special for the first class. You can dance in our studios in clean street shoes. We recommend that you wear comfortable, loose clothing.
Just like at parties, you will find people of (almost) all ages in the courses. Depending on the course, the average is somewhere between 20 and 50 years old.
Everyone learns at a different pace. This has to do with individual prior knowledge, aptitude, age and other factors. We believe that anyone can learn to dance. Some learn faster than others, as with everything in life. We do our best to meet our students where they are in order to make their first steps as easy as possible. Everyone who wants to try it is welcome!
Of course, there are countless dance styles. Here at Bailamos Salsa, we teach:
Salsa On1 and On2 (both linear salsa styles)
Sensual Bachata
Kizomba
Reggaeton
You can find out more about each of these dance styles here.
As a general rule, course fees are non-refundable. However, we are committed to providing excellent courses that combine in-depth expertise with an enjoyable learning experience: anyone who is dissatisfied with a course term and submits a well-founded, written complaint to info@bailamos-salsa.ch will receive a refund of the course fee.
If you would like to enjoy intensive and tailored lessons, private lessons may be the right choice for you. Contact us directly by phone or email. You can find the prices for private lessons here.
If you are a little short of money, that is no reason not to dance. Contact us so that we can arrange payment in instalments, for example.
Is there anything better than giving the gift of exercise, fun, joie de vivre and passion combined with great music? You can find all the information about our gift vouchers here.
Every Thursday, we hold a practica in our studios with three floors (salsa, bachata and kizomba). The practica is open to the public and costs CHF 7.00 to enter. Mineral water is provided free of charge. Several of our instructors are on hand at each practica to ensure that you have danceable music and are available to answer any questions you may have. You can find more information about our events here.
Everyone learns at their own pace. Even after just a few lessons, you’ll be able to move to the music and dance your first steps. You’re welcome to join our public events right from the start: the Practica every Thursday in our studios and the Salsa-Paradies Social every Wednesday at Corrientes. Both are public events and open to everyone – not just our students, but the whole dance scene in Basel and the surrounding area. As a rough guide: after 1–2 course cycles, most people feel at ease on the dance floor. The best way to improve quickly is to go out dancing regularly!
We have set up our WhatsApp news group chat for exactly this purpose. Our students can use this chat to connect and go out together. No matter what your dance level is, everyone is welcome! Of course, we teachers are also always out and about and will keep you up to date on cool party locations. Ask our team about this chat.
Our Salsa Paradies Social takes place every Wednesday at the Corrientes on Gundeldingerfeld for all salsa lovers. Primarily, Salsa songs are played on this evening. However, Bachata and Kizomba enthusiasts also get their money's worth. You can find more information about our events here.
We organise a big party several times a year. With three dance floors, Salsa, Bachata and Kizomba rhythms, as well as great shows, we conjure up a unique dance experience for you. The party always has a motto, which you are welcome to live out. A prize awaits the brave. You can find more information about our events here.
